John Clark Marshman, C. S. I. (1794-1877). One of the well-known group of missionaries at Serampur, Marshman became a busy journalist and writer of books. In conjunction with his father (Dr. Joshua Marshman) he started the Friend of India ; and after his retirement to England in 1852 he compiled, among other works, a history of India, which became very popular.
