Nandalal Bose was a noted Indian painter of Bengal school of art. A foremost pupil of Abanindranath Tagore, a pioneer of the school, he started with "Indian style" of painting, before shaping an alternative style at the Kala Bhavan, the School of Art at Rabindranath Tagore's university at Shantiniketan, Visva Bharati.

He was influenced by the Tagore family and the murals of Ajanta, his classic works include paintings of scenes from Indian mythologies, women, and village life.
